msiexec.exe /i

I always tell my users there are no stupid questions. This is why.

I’m new(ish) to MDT and am starting to add applications to our MDT server. I had the MSI all ready, the deployment shares all configured and kept getting errors on installation.

Baffled. Then I googled a how to guide and I’d missed msiexec.exe /i off the quiet install command. Added it in and, unsurprisingly the install worked first time.

But, why?

Well msiexec.exe is the windows component that handles the installation of software. The /i is just a switch that tells msiexec to do a normal install. There are other options, but I’m (as yet) unsure why you’d use them.
